Nov 11, 2024

The Magnolia Network founders’ new roller skating competition series will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 10 on Max

Chip and Joanna Gaines are bringing reality TV to a whole new level with the first-ever roller skating competition series!

PEOPLE got an exclusive first look at the trailer for the Magnolia Network founders’ upcoming Max series, Roller Jam, which premieres on Thursday, Oct. 10. The six-episode series hosted by Jordin Sparks showcases some of the most talented roller skating crews in the country as they perform various routines inspired by different decades.

Along with receiving $150,000, the winner will also be awarded a $10,000 donation to their local rink. Teams will be judged by two-time U.S. Olympian and national figure skating champion Johnny Weir, roller-skating legend Terrell Ferguson and a celebrity guest judge, including Michelle Williams, Maureen McCormick, Pepa, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Debbie Gibson, and of course, Joanna Gaines.

In the exclusive trailer above, a voice can be heard saying, “This is the biggest thing in roller skate history,” as the camera zooms in on a shiny pair of roller skates resting below a disco ball. Sparks then chimes in, “This is Roller Jam.”

The scene cuts to a montage of the different skate crews showing off their skills in their home cities. The featured teams are coming from Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville, New York and St. Louis.

“We’ve got the 10 best teams in America ready to battle it out, with $150 grand on the line,” Ferguson says.

The setting abruptly changes to reveal the colorful rink, designed by James Pearse Connelly, where each team will perform and compete. A glowing “Roller Jam” sign can be seen hanging in the background, as well as the sparkling disco ball and neon lights that decorate the space.

Weir then says, “This show is the first time ever that roller skating is being appreciated.”

Joanna, an avid roller skater herself, notes, “The love, the connection,” as each team demonstrates their impressive choreography — from flips to spins and everything in between.

Viewers also get a glimpse of the intense training that each competitor undergoes for their routines in the show.

“We have prepared our entire lives for this one moment,” one pro says, followed by another adding, “Not that many people know the work, blood, sweat and tears that go into it.”

Along with Roller Jam, Chip and Joanna are executive producers of two additional reality shows premiering this fall on Max.

These include Second Chance Stage, an eight-episode talent competition series, and Human vs. Hamster, in which “the world’s most remarkable pet hamsters go toe-to-toe with teams of humans in scaled challenges," according to a press release.

Magnolia Network first announced that Chip and Joanna were developing Roller Jam in August 2023.
